Dave Walker has over 20 years experience in the music industry working as as a musician, engineer, producer and songwriter. He has taught privately and in schools throughout his entire musical career and we are thrilled to have him here at MODE.
Aside from his own original solo work, Dave's current projects include the award winning festival favourites, Shanakee (guitar/mandolin/vocals), hard rock band Destroy She Said (lead guitar) and a swag of original projects including Swamp Ash and Blue Moon Lodge. He is also an in high demand as a studio engineer and producer. Dovetailing his work as founder and co-owner of Folk/Roots label, Green South Records.
Dave has recently returned from a month long tour to remote indigenous communities in NT, SA and WA. Working as a sound/instrument and staging technician, Dave played a pivotal role in the 18 person touring party which brought a large production of indigenous bands to the most remote communities in Australia.
Like most of us here at MODE, Dave's main goal is to keep lessons fun and engaging for all students. His main teaching philosophy covers three great points:
1. Get budding musicians excited about playing
2. Give them the skills to make them want to pick up their chosen instrument regularly and;
3. Fuel the creative passion that lies within all of us.
Dave's approach to teaching stems from decades of live performance experience, touring Australia and Asia,and thousands of hours in the recording studio. Post a 12 month adventure to the US, playing and learning from some great guitar players, he first began teaching guitar at the age of 17. Dave is a very passionate teacher with a practical approach to learning guitar. He focuses on some key elements; rhythm, timing, ear training, energy and performance - whilst providing a fun and enjoyable learning environment for people of all ages and abilities.
